[ARCHIVED] Pump Station 33B (Issue 205)

The District’s newest wastewater pumping facility, known as Pump Station 33B, was placed into service in February following many years of planning and more than a year and a half of construction.  Located near Pacific Highway and S. 359th St., the new pump station has the ability to pump 2,100 gallons of wastewater per minute (gpm) collected in the southerly portion of the District’s service area. The new station is part of a transmission system that conveys wastewater to the Lakota Treatment Plant. At full capacity, Pump Station 33B will have the ability to pump wastewater at a rate of 6,400 gpm. The construction was complicated by the presence of the high levels of groundwater at the site, which is in the upper reaches of the Hylebos Wetlands. At a final depth of 17 feet, the pump station essentially operates in an underwater vault. The final price tag for the construction was about $7.4 million dollars.
